General research interest
My main research focus is to determine how identified neurons and neuronal circuits of the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus contribute to network computations and cognitive behavior. We aim to understand how neuronal synchrony in different frequency bands are generated by neuronal circuits, how GABAergic interneurons and pyramidal cells interact in time to perform cortical computations, how distinct types of GABAergic and glutamatergic cells contribute differentially to network operations and how cognitive behavior is reflected by the activity of identified neurons and neuronal circuits. We use electrophysiological recordings and imaging, immunohistochemical analysis and behavioural tasks to explain temporal precision in cortical networks of distinct cell types underlying cognition.
